Iran Claims to Have Captured 3 Israeli Spies in a Joint Operation with Afghanistan, According to Report

Three Iranians who were allegedly agents of Israel’s spy agency, Mossad, have been detained in a joint operation with Afghanistan’s Taliban government, as reported by state television in Iran on Sunday. The broadcaster stated that the three individuals, who held Iranian nationality, were captured in the mountainous region between Iran and Afghanistan. The arrests were made known following a visit by a Taliban delegation to Tehran, during which they held meetings with top officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

According to state television, the detained individuals were planning to carry out kamikaze drone attacks on targets in Iran from the Afghan border. The report mentioned that they will be transferred to Iran for interrogation, but did not provide further details.

It is important to note that Iran does not recognize Israel as it considers the country its arch-enemy. The two nations have been engaged in a covert war for several years, with Tehran accusing Israel of conducting sabotage attacks and assassinations targeting Iran’s nuclear program. Iran has also accused Israel of being responsible for a drone attack on a defense ministry site in the province of Isfahan in January.

Iran praised the October 7 attacks by Hamas militants in Israel, which Hamas claims resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people, mostly civilians. Israel, on the other hand, states that Hamas also seized 240 hostages and took them to the Gaza Strip. In response, Israel carried out a bombing campaign in densely populated Gaza, leading to the deaths of 9,770 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
