Thousands of Palestinian workers from the Gaza Strip were deported back to the besieged territory by Israel on Friday, according to Palestinian authorities. These workers had been trapped in legal limbo since their detention when the Israel-Hamas war erupted. Many of them reported experiencing violent mistreatment by Israeli authorities in detention centers. The workers, who had been allowed to work in menial jobs in Israel, shared stories of abuse and mistreatment while in detention. Some returned to Gaza with bruises and wounds, while others suffered from psychological trauma. Tragically, one worker, 61-year-old Mansour Warsh Agha, returned in a body bag. The workers’ permits were revoked and they were deported by Israel, which had said little about them since the Hamas attack on Israel. The workers were arrested and placed in Israeli prisons, where they were subjected to interrogation, beatings, and deprivation of water and food. The families of the workers are now demanding answers about their loved ones’ treatment. Israeli rights groups have criticized the detention of the workers without charge or legal representation. The exact number of workers detained and deported remains unclear, but thousands crossed back into Gaza on Friday. Some speculate that others may still be in detention or hiding from Israeli security forces. The Israeli government has not provided any comment on the situation.
