Israeli Police Officer Fatally Stabbed by Palestinian Teen in Jerusalem

A 20-year-old Israeli border police officer was fatally stabbed in Jerusalem on Monday, adding to the ongoing violence in the region. The officer, Sgt. Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin, was attacked by a 16-year-old Palestinian boy from East Jerusalem, who was subsequently shot dead. Another officer was also injured in the incident.

Sgt. Lubin, originally from Georgia in the United States, was patrolling Jerusalem’s Old City when she was targeted. Despite receiving critical injuries, she unfortunately did not survive.

According to the Atlanta Jewish Times, Sgt. Lubin had immigrated to Israel from the United States in 2021 and joined the Israel Border Police as part of her Army duty in 2022. She was living in Israel without her family and was referred to as a “lone soldier.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s ground forces are currently engaged in a campaign to dismantle the Palestinian Hamas group, which is responsible for the October 7 terror attacks. Overnight, the forces apprehended 28 individuals, 11 of whom were allegedly connected to Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also destroyed a weapons warehouse that stored gas cylinders and materials for making explosives.

The IDF, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), reported, “Tonight, the security forces mapped the home of the terrorist who carried out the stabbing attack in Jerusalem. During the operation, suspects threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the forces, who responded by shooting, resulting in injuries.”

The conflict has taken a heavy toll, with at least 340 Israeli soldiers reported killed among the 1,400 Israeli deaths since Hamas initiated its cross-border incursion on October 7. Retaliatory airstrikes by Israel have claimed over 10,000 lives on the Palestinian side, according to the Gaza health ministry, with a significant number of women and children among the casualties.
