As reported by Forbes Croatia, users will have the option to decide whether they want ChatGPT to remember their conversations. This interesting feature would enable the chatbot to store specific information about the user, leading to a more personalized interaction. This personalization would allow the chatbot to understand the user’s preferences and tailor its responses accordingly, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.
The announcement also mentioned that users would have control over the type of information that ChatGPT stores. With every interaction, the chatbot’s memory will evolve and it will gradually learn which information is relevant to store based on the user’s preferences. This adaptive learning capability is aimed at making the chatbot more intuitive and user-friendly.
One of the examples given of this feature in action is when a user asks ChatGPT to design a birthday card for a child. Let’s say the user has previously mentioned that the child is fond of jellyfish. Drawing from this information, ChatGPT could create a card featuring a jellyfish donning a party hat. This showcases how the chatbot can use stored information to provide more personalized responses.
Such features will not be limited to individual users but will also be extended to ChatGPT Team and Enterprises. This means the chatbot will also be able to remember and mimic your tone and voice while responding to certain queries. In addition, the Books GPT feature will offer book recommendations based on the user’s preferences such as their favorite genre or books.
Businesses will have the opportunity to upload data to ChatGPT. The chatbot will then use this data to create inference tables. Moreover, programming companies will be able to save information regarding their preferred programming language and frameworks. This way, these preferences can be recalled for future projects, thereby saving time and effort.
However, it is important to note that the chatbot has been designed not to store sensitive personal information such as passwords, passport numbers, or health details. The rollout of this feature will initially be limited to a few free and subscription users this week, with wider availability planned for later stages.
The addition of memory to ChatGPT is the latest advancement announced by the company, following the chatbot’s immense success over the past year. Last month, the company launched the GPT Store, an online platform where users can exchange custom chatbots. The launch was delayed by two months due to internal changes in the company’s leadership. Last month also saw the introduction of ChatGPT Team, a scaled-down version of the ChatGPT Enterprise feature launched in August. This version is targeted at organizations that require chatbots with high-level security.
At the World Governments Summit in Dubai, the company’s CEO, Sam Altman, expressed his concerns about the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence via video link. He stressed that his worries were not about a dystopian future filled with rogue robots, but about the subtle social changes that could render this technology harmful.
