The esteemed football club FC Barcelona announced this Tuesday that their key players, Portuguese striker Joao Felix and Spanish midfielder Sergi Roberto, are finally medically fit. After being sidelined due to injuries, they have now been declared fit and have rejoined the squad. Their return comes just in time for Barcelona’s crucial visit to Naples for the first leg of the round of 16 in the 2023-2024 Champions League.
Joao Felix, a pivotal figure in the team’s offensive line, suffered a sprain to the external lateral ligament in his right ankle in late January. The injury occurred during a training session and has seen him miss all the matches in February. Similarly, Sergi Roberto, a valuable midfielder for the team, has been absent from the field since the end of January. His absence was due to physical discomfort he had been experiencing.
The return of both these players is a significant development for the team and they are the main new additions in the list of 23 footballers selected by the team’s head coach Xavi Hernández. The team is set to face off against Serie A champions at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this Wednesday as part of their Champions League campaign. Another notable mention in the team line-up is Brazilian striker Vitor Roque. He is poised to potentially make his debut in this top-tier continental competition.
The complete squad announced by the club includes Ter Stegen, Iñaki Pena, and Astralaga as goalkeepers. The field players include Joao Cancelo, Araujo, Íñigo Martinez, Pedri, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Joao Félix, Christensen, Romeu, Vitor Roque, Sergi Roberto, De Jong, Gündogan, Kounde, Lamine Yamal, Casadó, Fermín, Cubarsí, Marc Guiu, and Fort.
