As the temperature drops and the colder weather sets in, many of us are searching for ways to save money on our heating bills. While the air fryer has been a popular appliance for cutting costs during the cost of living crisis, it seems that two other energy-saving devices are gaining traction – the dehumidifier and the heated airer.
According to John Lewis, sales of dehumidifiers and heated clothes airers are on the rise as savvy Brits look for alternative ways to lower their bills. The sales of heated airers, which cost approximately 11p to run and provide a cheaper option compared to tumble drying, have increased by almost 50% compared to last year. The store offers a 3-Tier Heated Indoor Clothes Airer for £100, as well as the Leifheit Pegasus 200 Deluxe Mobile Indoor Clothes Airer priced at £62.99.
In addition, dehumidifier sales have tripled, as people seek to reduce moisture and improve air quality in their homes during the colder months. Roshni Chauhan, an electrical buyer for John Lewis, explains that customers are looking for cost-effective ways to manage their heating expenses, and both heated clothes airers and dehumidifiers offer a great alternative for drying laundry indoors at a lower cost than traditional tumble dryers.
Although the air fryer’s position as the go-to energy-saving appliance is being challenged, it remains popular among customers and has experienced three years of continuous growth. Alongside the rise of dehumidifiers and heated airers, other cost-conscious products such as portable heaters and heated blankets and throws are also seeing an increase in sales as people prepare to stay warm and cozy this winter. Sales of heated blankets have risen by a third compared to the same period last year, while traditional fur throw sales have increased by 91% compared to this time in 2022. The John Lewis Faux Fur Throw, priced at £110, is a bestseller, offering customers a cozy option for the upcoming winter nights.
In addition to turning to electrical appliances, people are also investing in warmer clothing. Cashmere sales have seen a spike, with a 10% increase compared to the previous year. Cashmere roll necks, in particular, have been in high demand, as customers seek snugger and more comfortable fits.
As winter approaches, people are finding innovative ways to save money on their heating bills while staying warm and comfortable. The popularity of dehumidifiers, heated airers, and the enduring appeal of the air fryer demonstrate the growing interest in energy-efficient products that provide practical and cost-effective solutions for managing heating costs.
