Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has urged India to take allegations made by Canada seriously, following recent claims by the United States that an Indian government official was involved in a failed plot to assassinate a Khalistani terrorist on American soil. Speaking in Ottawa, Trudeau emphasized the importance of India addressing these allegations.
The US Justice Department revealed on Wednesday that a 52-year-old man collaborated with an Indian government employee responsible for security and intelligence in planning the assassination of a New York City resident who advocated for a separate Sikh state in northern India.
Trudeau commented, “The news coming out of the United States further underscores what we’ve been talking about from the very beginning, which is that India needs to take this seriously.”
These charges from the US follow Canada’s previous statement, made two months ago, that there were credible allegations connecting Indian agents to the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in a Vancouver suburb in June. India has denied these allegations.
