In his civil fraud trial in New York, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell criticized Donald Trump for his testimony, calling it “the stupidest possible thing he could say.” O’Donnell argued that Trump’s lack of intelligence, coupled with his ineffective lawyers, led him to incriminate himself and his children during the trial. The damning moment came when Trump was asked about the responsibility of preventing and detecting fraud within the Trump Organization, to which he simply replied, “Everybody.” O’Donnell asserted that Trump’s response destroyed any defense he had, along with that of his co-defendants, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. Judge Arthur Engoron had already determined that Trump committed fraud, leaving the main question to be the extent of the penalty, which could reach $250 million. Trump’s goal as a witness was to shift blame away from himself and his sons and onto his accountants, but instead, he inadvertently incriminated himself and his children, according to O’Donnell.
