Man Charged for Impersonating Gurugram Police Commissioner, Legal Action Initiated

A man in Gurugram attempted to deceive senior police officers by posing as Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Arora, according to officials. The fraudster used Arora’s photo as his display picture on WhatsApp and sent messages to deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners of police, asking them to purchase gift coupons worth Rs 50,000 and share the codes with him. However, the officers became suspicious as they had the police chief’s number saved in their phones, and they alerted each other. The messages were sent on the evenings of November 23 and November 24. The Cyber Crime Police Station East has filed an FIR against the unknown perpetrator. A cyber cell official stated that the man obtained the police commissioner’s photo and the numbers of senior officers from the Gurugram police website.
