Man Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail After Demanding Death Penalty from Judge

A man has been sentenced to six months in jail by the Delhi High Court for contempt of court after he used derogatory language towards a judge who dismissed his petition. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the man, Naresh Sharma, and expressed shock at the language he used in his case before the high court. The court stated that as a responsible citizen, Sharma was expected to express his grievances in a civilized manner while respecting the dignity of the court and the judicial process.

The bench, headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and also consisting of Justice Shalinder Kaur, ordered Sharma to be taken into custody by HC Vinod (Naib Court), who would then hand him over to Tihar Jail in Delhi. The court’s decision came in response to a contempt case that arose from Sharma’s petition, in which he sought the prosecution of various government entities for alleged crimes. The petition was dismissed by a single judge, leading Sharma to file an appeal before a division bench, demanding the death penalty for the judge and filing a police complaint against her.

The court noted that Sharma’s appeal contained baseless allegations and derogatory language towards the judge, which it deemed unacceptable. It further observed that Sharma had made derogatory allegations against the Delhi High Court and even called for the death penalty. Despite these findings, Sharma stood by his allegations during the proceedings and showed no remorse for his actions.

The court emphasized that as an educated individual who had studied at prestigious institutions, Sharma was expected to respect the Indian Constitution and have faith in the legal system. It reiterated that he should express his grievances in a civilized manner while maintaining the dignity of the court and the judicial process.
