Mass Injury Reported in Autobahn 2 Crash

A serious accident occurred on Sunday night on Autobahn 2, near the city of Herten in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Two cars, both fully occupied, collided while heading in the direction of Oberhausen, another city in the same region.

The emergency call was made at exactly 12:55 a.m. The call was received by the Recklinghausen fire department, who quickly dispatched emergency personnel to the scene of the accident. Upon arrival, the situation was assessed as critical. The emergency management triggered a “mass casualty incident” at level 5, indicating the severity of the situation. (Editor’s note: A “mass casualty incident” is a term used to describe a situation where a large number of people are affected and need to be cared for.)

Due to the magnitude of the incident, more emergency vehicles were deployed from neighboring cities, including Gelsenkirchen, Marl, Herten, and Herne. These ambulances were quickly on the scene to provide medical assistance to the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals.

The collision resulted in significant debris, which was scattered across all lanes of the highway. As a result, the road had to be completely closed for approximately two hours to allow for the cleanup and investigation.

As of Sunday morning, the exact cause of the accident had not been determined. Furthermore, the precise number of individuals who were injured in the accident remains unclear.
