The mother of a Cornell University student, who was accused of making antisemitic threats on campus, has expressed concern for her son’s future. Patrick Dai, 21, was apprehended last week following a string of alarming messages posted online, including threats to carry out a violent act targeting a university dining hall known for serving Jewish students. Bing Liu, Dai’s mother, acknowledged the gravity of her son’s alleged actions during an interview with the Democrat and Chronicle. However, she argued that media reports failed to present a complete picture of him. Liu highlighted an apology post supposedly written by her son prior to his arrest, in which he emphasized the importance of refraining from divisive statements both in person and online. He further conveyed that there was no justification for targeting innocent individuals, especially his classmates. Liu questioned why the FBI and Cornell University did not disclose this crucial information and stated that she only became aware of the allegations against her son when a friend sent her a Daily Beast article about his arrest.
