Mumbai Father and Daughter Miraculously Survive Uber Cab Crash on Highway

A Mumbai-based author and his 11-year-old daughter had a terrifying experience during a cab ride on the Mumbai-Pune express highway. Dhaval Kulkarni shared his ordeal on Twitter, hoping that authorities and Uber would take action to prevent similar incidents in the future. Kulkarni explained that he and his daughter were traveling from Pune to Mumbai after their train tickets were waitlisted. The Uber driver had a high rating on the app and was initially polite. However, Kulkarni noticed that the driver was talking on the phone while driving, which made him uncomfortable. Despite this, he decided not to argue with the driver. As they continued their journey, the driver started yawning and driving recklessly, even nearly colliding with a truck. Kulkarni asked the driver if he was sleepy, but the driver attributed his yawning to the AC. Kulkarni then suggested that the driver splash water on his face to stay awake. However, shortly after, the car crashed into a truck, deploying the airbags. Kulkarni and his daughter managed to escape with minor injuries. The truck driver fled the scene without checking on them. Kulkarni criticized the response of the authorities, alleging that they did not provide any first aid. When he called Uber for assistance, he was assured that another cab would be arranged, but the driver refused to take his calls. Desperate for help, Kulkarni contacted a senior IPS officer who sent a police team and an ambulance. Kulkarni was eventually taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with blunt trauma to his chest. He blamed the highway police, RTO officials, and Uber for their inadequate response to the emergency situation. Kulkarni tagged Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s office, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Uber in his Twitter post, hoping to bring attention to the incident and prevent future occurrences.
