Award-winning Canadian director’s documentary reveals Navalnyi’s message concerning his attempted assassination and the malevolent scheme behind it.
Social media platforms have been buzzing with a video clip from the laureate Navalnyi’s documentary. The video features Alexei Navalny delivering his “last message” to the Russian populace.
The video has been disseminated by significant figures including Sweden’s former prime minister and peace negotiator Carl Bildt. On Friday, the Russian prison service announced the death of the opposition leader Navalny in prison.
Navalny’s inner circle and legal representative have yet to confirm this information.
In the video, Daniel Roher, the director of the documentary, queries Navalny about the message he would want to leave behind if he were to be assassinated.
“My message is very simple: don’t give up,” Navalnyi articulates in English in the documentary.
Subsequently, Roher requests him to respond in Russian.
“If they opt to murder me, it underscores our strength, and this strength must be leveraged. We represent a considerable force that has been oppressed by the villains. The triumph of evil necessitates one thing: the lack of action by virtuous individuals. Do not fall into that trap.”
Roher later rationalized his language switch request by stating his desire for the Russian populace to hear Navalny’s final words.
The documentary commenced in late 2020 when Navalnyi, who was subjected to poisoning attempts, contacted an FSB intelligence service agent who was supposedly involved in the assassination attempt.
Navalnyi impersonated a high-ranking FSB officer and the agent fell into the trap: during the phone call, he unwittingly detailed the assassination attempt in Tomsk the previous August to his intended victim. This historic phone call left the Russian spying apparatus in ridicule.
Navalnyi’s documentary was honored with an Oscar for the best long-form documentary last year. According to a previous assessment, the film was one of the most important documentaries of the year.
