The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 14 locations in Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday as part of its investigation into the attacks on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco earlier this year. The raids were aimed at uncovering the complete conspiracy behind the attacks, which involved criminal trespass, vandalism, damage to public property, and attempts to harm consulate officials and set the building on fire through arson.
The locations raided by the NIA were situated in the districts of Moga, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Mohali, and Patiala in Punjab, as well as Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar in Haryana. During the crackdown, digital data containing information about the accused individuals, as well as other incriminating documents, were seized.
The NIA’s investigation is focused on identifying and prosecuting the attackers, as well as sending a strong message to anti-Indian elements. In August 2023, a team from the NIA had visited San Francisco to probe the incidents of attacks on the consulate.
As part of their efforts, the NIA has also sought information from the public to identify and gather information about US-based entities and individuals involved in these violent incidents.
