The newly-appointed executive director of the North Dakota Republican Party has resigned from his position after it was discovered that his social media account was filled with racist and sexist tweets. Dave Roetman, who was hired just 10 days ago, stepped down after these offensive posts were brought to light.
According to reports by The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, Roetman had made numerous ignorant social media posts. These included comments under pictures of partially clothed women, jokes about women making sandwiches and pies, and a suggestion that Black people should leave the United States and move to Wakanda, the fictional African kingdom from the movie “Black Panther.”
In a brief statement announcing his resignation, Roetman stated, “I believe the best path forward for the NDGOP is for me to take a different path. I wish them all the best.” It was also reported that he made derogatory comments in response to a woman’s post about relationship advice and approved of groping women.
Furthermore, Roetman made a joke about making pies in response to a post asking if an attractive woman in a photograph could make sandwiches. He also responded to a story about a Black female reporter leaving a country music festival after being subjected to a racial slur by commenting, “Narcissist?”
When questioned about these posts by reporter Rob Port, Roetman showed no remorse. “I am a man who stands by his words,” he stated.
Roetman had joined the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, in April 2022 and had been an active user since then. He was hired as the executive director after the previous director, Samantha Holly, left abruptly in September due to conflicts with party members who wanted to exclude traditional conservative Republicans in favor of loyalists of former President Donald Trump.
Roetman’s social media posts also indicate his support for the Trump faction of the party. However, his offensive and derogatory comments led to his quick resignation from his position.
