The National Security Service of Armenia (NSS) has disclosed that there are no records concerning the crossing of the state border of Armenia by a citizen of the Czech Republic. This information was passed on in response to a request made by “Freedom”.
Earlier in February, Azerbaijani media outlets that align with the government reported that a Czech citizen had been apprehended by the military for crossing the border illicitly. The exact location of the border crossing was not disclosed. However, it was emphasized that the Czech citizen was able to traverse not only Armenian positions but also a minefield without sustaining any injuries.
Caliber.az, a publication reputed to have close ties with the Ministry of Defense, inferred from this incident that there was a possibility the Czech citizen could be an operative for Western intelligence agencies. This theory was further bolstered by references to the European Union’s mission in Armenia.
Confirmation of the Czech citizen’s arrest has been provided by the Czech embassy in Armenia. However, they refrained from giving any further details regarding the individual’s identity or the circumstances under which he ended up in Azerbaijan.
