ÖSV Stars Nearly Secure Victory

The 2023/’24 season may well be remembered as the Winter of the Swiss in World Cup history. Marco Odermatt has already secured the overall World Cup, and his fellow Swiss competitor, Lara Gut-Behrami, is also on track to win the Grand Crystal Ball.

After triumphing in the Super-G at Kvitfjell, the 32-year-old from Ticino has extended her lead over Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) by over 300 points, with Shiffrin not starting in Norway.

Gut-Behrami is making significant progress towards her second overall World Cup victory after her 2015/’16 win. She has also increased her lead in the Super-G World Cup. Similar to Marco,

At the finish line, Gut-Behrami was twelve hundredths of a second ahead of Cornelia Hütter. Hütter was leading at the last split, but like all other competitors, she lost time in the final section against the dominant Gut-Behrami. “It’s cool that I can fight back,” she said.

In the Super-G World Cup, Hütter is the primary challenger to the Swiss leader and is 25 points behind. There are still two races remaining in this discipline.

Behind Cornelia Hütter, Mirjam Puchner (+0.13 seconds) of Austria also secured a podium finish. Puchner was even 81 hundredths of a second faster than winner Gut-Behrami in the top section of the course, but could not maintain her lead to the finish.

“I finally showed my racing skills again,” said the 31-year-old Puchner.

Another Super-G race will be held in Kvitfjell on Sunday. Prior to the World Cup finals in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (March 16th to 24th), the women will compete in technical races in Aare.
