Peasant Confederation Outraged Following A43 Evacuation

The content discusses the recent events regarding the protests by farmers in France. The farmers have been denouncing the government’s differential treatment based on the nature of the mobilizations and the union organizations involved. After most roadblocks were voluntarily lifted by the farmers, the police evacuated the last two blockades of the Confédération Paysanne, a left-wing union that did not join the majority union FNSEA in suspending actions following the Prime Minister’s announcements.

The blockages at the Saint-Quentin-Fallavier toll and the Leclerc purchasing center in Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc were peacefully evacuated, according to the union and local authorities. However, Jean-François Guitton, secretary general of the Loire-Atlantique Peasant Confederation, expressed his disappointment, stating that they were being dislodged despite their peaceful protest.

One person was reportedly arrested during the evacuation for contempt and rebellion. The site was cleared due to disturbances to public order and the risk of shortages and losses of fresh products, as per the Loire-Atlantique prefecture.

The Peasant Confederation expressed its outrage at the government’s differential treatment of mobilizations and union organizations. They argued that while the government responded to the personal interests of speculative agri-managers of the FNSEA, the central issue of farmers’ income remains unresolved.

The evacuation of the A43 toll in Isère, one of the last remaining blockages in the region, allowed for the resumption of traffic between Lyon and Chambéry. The A43 and SCA West roadblocks were the last two held by the Confédération Paysanne. This union was the last to call for continued mobilization, criticizing the government’s agricultural policy and demanding better remuneration measures.
