Año clarified that Brawner had been misquoted or misinterpreted by the media. Año also assured that the security sector would remain vigilant and prepared to counter any threats to national security. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of the late Philippine strongman deposed in a 1986 uprising, won the presidential elections last year, but has experienced a significant decline in approval ratings due to rising consumer prices.
