Police Detain Four Individuals for Displaying Palestinian Flag at Pak-Bangladesh Match in Kolkata

Four individuals were taken into custody by the police in Kolkata for waving the Palestinian flag during the Pakistan-Bangladesh World Cup cricket match at Eden Gardens stadium on Tuesday. According to a senior police officer, two of the detainees are from Jharkhand, while the other two are from Kolkata’s Ekbalpore and neighbouring Howrah.

The IPS officer stated, “We have detained two of them for waving the Palestinian flag near gate number 6 and the other two at Block G1. We are trying to find out their motive.” The four individuals were apprehended by law enforcement officials from Maidan police station and are currently being questioned.

Initially, the police officers stationed there were unable to comprehend the protesters’ intentions. However, when the individuals waved the flag of Palestine, they were detained. The detainees did not raise any slogans during the incident.

Sources within the Kolkata Police revealed that the preliminary investigation indicated that the four individuals, who are in their mid-twenties, were protesting against the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. They chose the international cricket match as a platform for their demonstration.
