Pope Francis Urges Diplomatic Solution to Russia-Ukraine Conflict

During the Angelus, Pope Francisco pleaded for a little humanity to facilitate a diplomatic solution for peace in Ukraine. He marked the second anniversary of the Russian invasion with a call to remember its devastating impacts.

The Pope, speaking from the papal palace, reflected on the ongoing war in Ukraine which began two years ago. He lamented the countless victims, injuries, and destruction it has caused, and highlighted the protracted nature of the conflict.

According to Francis, the war in Ukraine is not only tearing apart the region but has also created a wave of fear and hatred globally.

He expressed his solidarity with the suffering Ukrainian people and prayed for peace, especially for the innocent victims of the conflict.

The Pope appealed for the discovery of humanity that would pave the way for a diplomatic solution and a lasting peace.

In good health, despite a recent bout of flu, Pope Francis also encouraged prayers for Palestine, Israel, and other war-torn regions.

He called for decisive action to protect the environment, citing the extreme cold wave in Mongolia as one of the many manifestations of climate change. Francis underscored the urgent need for protective measures, especially for the most vulnerable populations.

“Let’s make wise and courageous decisions for the protection of Creation,” he urged.

Despite a slight flu, Pope Francis led the Sunday Angelus prayer from the window of the papal palace.

The Pope, in a clear voice, delivered his reflection before the Angelus prayer to a crowd of faithful in St. Peter’s Square.

Francis also expressed his concern for the escalating violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and encouraged prayers for peace and constructive dialogue. He lamented the increasing incidence of kidnappings in Nigeria, and conveyed his solidarity with the Nigerian people.
