In an effort towards diplomatic resolution, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan have resumed their negotiations in Berlin. The news comes from the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Armenia (RA) who made the announcement via a post on the social network platform, X.
Ani Badalyan, the spokesperson, provided further details by stating that the discussions, as per the planned schedule, are set to continue into the next day. This indicates a sustained effort from both sides to find common ground and work towards resolving their issues.
Earlier, a tripartite meeting took place involving the Armenian Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, the German Foreign Minister, Analena Berbock and the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov. The prime focus of this meeting, according to the information department of the RA Foreign Ministry, was to discuss the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, expressed his gratitude to the German side for facilitating and hosting the meeting and negotiations. This gesture underscores the importance of third-party involvement in mediating discussions and fostering an environment conducive to dialogue and negotiation.
Following the meeting, the German Foreign Affairs Minister, Analena Berbock, made a brief statement to the press. However, the details of this statement have not been disclosed in this report.
Prior to this, a meeting of delegations led by Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, respectively, took place. Additionally, the German Foreign Minister, Analena Burbok, held separate bilateral meetings with both ministers, further emphasizing Germany’s role as a mediator in this process.
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, publicly announced the meeting between Mirzoyan and Bayramov after the tripartite meeting between himself, the President of Azerbaijan, and the Chancellor of Germany. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, also made a similar statement. He additionally noted that in the near future, there will be a meeting of commissions focusing on border demarcation issues, signaling a move towards resolution of one of the key contentious issues between the two nations.
