Priyanka Chopra Becomes the Latest Target of Deepfake Technology, Following Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt

Another deepfake video has surfaced on the internet, this time featuring actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The digitally altered video shows Ms. Chopra promoting brands and giving investment advice. Deepfakes are synthetic media created using artificial intelligence to manipulate visual and audio content, often with malicious intent.

In this particular deepfake, Ms. Chopra’s voice has been edited and her lines have been replaced with a fake brand promotion. This incident follows the recent controversy surrounding deepfakes of various actors and high-profile individuals, leading the government to consider internet regulations to combat this growing issue.

Deepfakes, in the wrong hands, can be dangerous weapons that can disrupt and damage businesses and governments. A fabricated video of a company’s top executive or a prominent politician can have severe consequences for their reputation.

To tackle this problem, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently met with social media platforms to assess their progress in combating misinformation and deepfakes. He stated that advisories would be issued within the next two days to ensure complete compliance from these platforms.

Once implemented, new regulations will make the creation of deepfakes a serious and punishable crime. The government aims to curb the spread of deepfakes and protect individuals and organizations from their potential harm.
