Putin Defines Ukraine Situation as “A Matter of Life and Death” for Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his perspective on the situation surrounding Ukraine, stating that it’s merely a matter of tactical positioning for Western countries, while for Russia, it is a matter of life and death. He made these comments while discussing the “historical part” of his interview with renowned American journalist Tucker Carlson.

Putin emphasized the importance for not only the Russian audience but also international listeners to comprehend the delicate and significant nature of the developments taking place in relation to Ukraine. According to him, every move and event that is happening in the direction of Ukraine carries a lot of weight and sensitivity for Russia.

The said interview, however, did not escape criticism. Observers pointed out that the journalist, in a way, provided a platform for propagating the Russian leader’s viewpoints. They argued that the Russian leader was given a substantial amount of time – two hours, to be precise – to express his views and ideas, which in their opinion, echoed propaganda.

This interview marks Putin’s first interaction with the American press in nearly two years, with the last one being at the onset of the Ukraine invasion. This makes it a significant event, considering the tense relations between Russia and the United States, especially in light of the ongoing issues surrounding Ukraine.
