Rahul Gandhi Receives Election Commission Notice Over ‘Panauti’ Remarks About PM Modi

Rahul Gandhi Receives Election Commission Notice for ‘Panauti’ Remarks on PM Modi

The Election Commission has taken notice of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “Panauti” (an unlucky person). The commission has sent a notice to Gandhi, asking for an explanation regarding the allegations made in a complaint filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is required to submit his response by Saturday evening.

The BJP’s complaint also claims that Gandhi used other derogatory terms and made unverified allegations during his campaign in Rajasthan, where assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday. The complaint asserts that such language is inappropriate for a senior leader.

The Election Commission, in its notice, highlighted that the Model Code of Conduct prohibits leaders from making unsubstantiated allegations against their political opponents.
