Shakib Al Hasan’s Fiery Response to Angelo Mathews’ ‘Timed Out’ Dismissal: “I Felt Like I Was At War”

Angelo Mathews and Shakib Al Hasan made history in a recent Cricket World Cup match as they were involved in one of the rarest dismissals in cricket – a “timed out”. Mathews, the former captain of Sri Lanka, became the first international cricketer to be given out in this manner. The decision was made after rival captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed for it, leaving the cricket world divided.

Shakib’s appeal for the timed out decision was within the rules of the game. He played a significant role in the match, scoring 82 runs as Sri Lanka failed to defend their target of 279 against Bangladesh. After the match, Shakib explained that one of his fielders informed him that Mathews would be out if he appealed. The umpire asked Shakib if he was serious, to which he replied that he did what he had to do within the laws of the game.

In the match, Charith Asalanka scored a century for Sri Lanka, making 108 runs off 105 balls. Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama also contributed with identical scores of 41 runs each. However, their efforts were in vain as Bangladesh emerged victorious, chasing down the target in 41.1 overs with three wickets to spare.

During the Sri Lankan innings, Mathews faced an incident that led to his dismissal. After the fall of a wicket, Mathews walked out to bat but had issues with his helmet strap and requested a replacement. This prompted Bangladesh to appeal for a “time out”. Despite Mathews having an animated discussion with the umpires, he was asked to leave the field.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan played crucial roles in Bangladesh’s victory, sharing a 161-run partnership for the third wicket. Shanto scored 90 runs, while Shakib contributed 82 runs before being dismissed by Mathews. Dilshan Madushanka was the top bowler for Sri Lanka, taking three wickets for 69 runs.

In the end, Bangladesh secured a three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in an inconsequential match of the World Cup. Both teams were already out of semifinal contention.
