Shocking Incident: American Airlines Staff Caught Mishandling Wheelchair – Outrage Spreads Across the Internet

American Airlines is facing backlash after a video went viral showing baggage handlers mishandling a passenger’s wheelchair. The video, which was shared on TikTok, depicts one of the handlers releasing the wheelchair down a jet chute, causing it to tumble and somersault before being caught by another handler on the tarmac. The clip, posted on November 18, has garnered millions of views. The incident took place at Miami International Airport, according to the user who recorded the video.

Haeley Dyrdahl, in the caption of the video, expressed her dissatisfaction, stating, “This is not what I’d call ‘handling with care’ for someone’s mobility device…”

The video has also circulated on other social media platforms, sparking outrage among users. Becca Peter, on Twitter, highlighted the frequent occurrence of wheelchair damages during flights and the detrimental impact it has on individuals with disabilities. She criticized American Airlines baggage handlers for demonstrating their enjoyment in breaking wheelchairs.

Dyrdahl informed CNN that she witnessed the handlers “do this and laugh with the first two wheelchairs.” She also observed a suitcase receiving the same rough treatment.

It remains unclear whether the wheelchair sustained any damage during the incident.

American Airlines has responded to the video, stating that they are reviewing the situation. A spokesperson for the airline emphasized their commitment to supporting customers with disabilities and ensuring the proper care of mobility devices throughout their journey. They expressed concern over the video and pledged to gather more details to address the issue with their team.

The viral clip has shed light on the challenges faced by disabled individuals in the United States. According to the non-profit organization Paralyzed Veterans of America, airline workers damaged, delayed, or lost over 31 wheelchairs per day between 2019 and 2022.

The response to the incident is currently awaited.
