Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, is reportedly not interested in extending his contract. According to sources, VVS Laxman, the chief of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), is likely to take over from him.
Dravid’s contract came to an end after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup last week, where India suffered a defeat in the final against Australia. Sources have confirmed that Dravid has decided not to continue as the head coach.
Meanwhile, Laxman, a former India batter and Dravid’s ex-teammate, is expected to take on the role of head coach. He has already been named as the designated head coach for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, which starts later on Thursday.
Dravid was appointed as the head coach in 2021, following India’s early exit from the T20 World Cup in the UAE. Under his guidance, India reached the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup, but unfortunately, they lost to Australia on both occasions. The team also made it to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup last year but was defeated by eventual champions England.
However, India did manage to win the Asia Cup earlier this year under Dravid’s leadership.
When asked about his future after the World Cup final defeat, Dravid remained non-committal, stating that he hadn’t had the time to think or reflect on it yet. He mentioned that he would consider it when he gets the opportunity.
This news has left fans speculating about the future of Indian cricket coaching, as Dravid’s contributions were highly regarded. It remains to be seen how Laxman will fare in his new role as the head coach and what changes he may bring to the team’s strategies and performance.
