Two people have died and seven others are missing after a boat capsized in the Saryu River in Bihar’s Saran district. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and nine individuals were able to swim to safety while the bodies of two women were recovered. Officials fear that the missing individuals may have drowned, but rescue efforts are ongoing.
Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir stated, “The incident took place around 6.30 pm when a boat carrying 18 people drowned in Saryu River near Matiyar Ghat in Manjhi block.” He added that a rescue operation has been launched and efforts are being made to identify the deceased. Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
This is the second major boat capsize in the state recently. On September 14, over 15 children were feared drowned after a boat carrying them capsized in the Bagmati River in Muzaffarpur district. The incident occurred while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was in the district reviewing the progress of various projects.
