CID Actor Dinesh Phadnis Passes Away at 57 Due to Liver Issues, Confirms Co-Star

New Delhi: Popular TV series actor Dinesh Phadnis, known for his role in CID, died at the age of 57 in Mumbai on Monday night, according to news agency PTI. Phadnis, who portrayed the character of Fredericks in the show, was admitted to Tunga Hospital in suburban Mumbai a few days ago. He succumbed to health complications related to his liver issues. Aditya Srivastava, Phadnis’ co-star in CID, confirmed the news, stating, “Dinesh left us around 12:08 am. We know that he had liver issues and it had an impact on the other organs. He was really unwell for two-three days. He couldn’t survive.”

Phadnis’ last rites were performed in Borivali East this morning, as reported by PTI. He is survived by his wife. CINTAA (Cine And TV Artistes’ Association), the film and television body, paid tribute to the actor on social media, expressing their condolences.

Apart from his role in CID, Dinesh Phadnis also made brief appearances in films like Sarfarosh and Mela, both starring Aamir Khan in lead roles. He also acted in the film Officer in 2001. His acting credits include cameo appearances in TV shows such as CID: Special Bureau, Adaalat, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, and CIF, among others. Phadnis was also seen in the Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30. In addition to acting, he also wrote for a Marathi film.

CID, which first aired in 1997, revolved around solving murder mysteries and featured Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman, with Aditya Srivastava as Senior Inspector Abhijeet and Dayanand Shetty as Inspector Daya in lead roles. The show successfully ran for over two decades and had more than 1,500 episodes.
