Trump lawyer receives legal advice from experts after meltdown

In a dramatic turn of events, Alina Habba, an attorney representing former President Donald Trump, expressed her frustration towards New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron during a recess in Monday’s testimony for Trump’s $250 million civil fraud case. Habba quoted the judge as stating, “‘I’m not here to hear what he has to say.'” This remark prompted Habba to question her role as an attorney, asking, “‘Then why exactly am I being paid as an attorney?'” She further explained that the reason was clear: New York Attorney General Letitia James wanted to continue calling her client a liar. Habba emphasized the importance of stopping corruption in courtrooms and allowing attorneys to effectively advocate for their clients’ best interests. She expressed her disappointment at being told to sit down and being subjected to the judge’s outbursts, stating that she does not tolerate such behavior.

Legal observers, however, criticized Habba’s complaints. MSNBC legal analyst Katie Phang sarcastically commented on Twitter that Habba’s statements reflected a lawyer who lacked trial experience and did not know how to behave in front of a judge. Eric Segall, a professor at Georgia State University Law, mocked Habba for being outraged about being asked to sit down. He tweeted that it was a terrible look for the lawyer. Attorney Bradley Moss chimed in, citing his own encounters with judges chastising him to highlight that such exchanges were not uncommon. He advised Habba to “get over it.”

The incident between Habba and Justice Engoron sparked debate among legal professionals, with some questioning Habba’s approach and others defending her frustrations. As the civil fraud case continues, the tense atmosphere in the courtroom remains an ongoing topic of discussion.
