An unidentified individual had reportedly “sent” a package through Intercity-Express (ICE), a renowned high-speed train which was en route from Berlin to Hamburg. On Monday, this package was found unattended, placed in the upper luggage rack of one of the ICE carriages. The federal police were alerted about this abandoned package on Tuesday evening, thanks to a vigilant passenger who spotted the package and promptly informed the train manager about the situation.
As the train made its entrance into Hamburg Central Station, the federal police sprung into action. They promptly evacuated the particular carriage where the unattended package was spotted. The suspicious package was first inspected by Smilla, an explosives detection dog. However, Smilla did not display any signs of detecting explosives, as per the observations of the Federal Police.
Upon seeing no immediate threat, the officers proceeded to open the box. Inside, they found a brand new LED light string. Interestingly, on the underside of the package, there was a name and a phone number. The federal police, using this information, managed to get in touch with the recipient of the package. The recipient confirmed that they were indeed expecting the package, but could not provide any details regarding the sender of the package.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding the sender of the package are still being investigated. However, the recipient, a 31-year-old, was allowed to leave the station shortly afterward. They were given necessary instructions and were allowed to take the package, which contained the string of fairy lights, with them.
