Unraveling the Mystery of Glass Cracks on Vision Pro

Recently, an array of alarming reports have begun to spread across the internet, particularly in forums frequented by the owners of the Vision Pro, an augmented reality headset produced by Apple. At present, this product is exclusively available within the United States. A number of users have reported an uncannily similar problem – a crack materializing on the front glass of the headset. What is peculiar about these reports is that the owners are unable to identify any reason or cause for this crack to appear. The issue was initially brought to light by MacRumors, a website devoted to Apple-related news and rumors. Following this exposure, five distinct users on the VisionPro subreddit have made similar posts about the issue. Engadget, a popular technology blog, also reported the same issue with the review unit that was sent to them by Apple.

The intriguing aspect about this phenomenon is the uniformity in the location of the cracks. All the images that have been posted by users depict a thin vertical crack positioned in the exact same area – above the nose bridge. All the affected Redditors have vehemently denied doing anything that could possibly cause the crack, such as dropping the device or not storing it in a suitable manner. One user goes on to claim that he had cleaned the front glass, secured the soft cover, placed the headset back in its case, only to discover the crack the following morning.

Numerous theories have started to emerge in an attempt to explain this baffling issue. Some people speculate that the cracking could be due to a heating problem when the Vision Pro is being charged while it is still in its case or cover. Others suggest that the crack could be the result of a manufacturing defect in the glass itself or perhaps a design flaw that puts undue stress on that specific area. There is also ambiguity regarding the impact of the crack, with some questioning whether it is merely a cosmetic issue. The crack appears to be located above a sensor, but it does not seem to obstruct any of the cameras.

Regardless of the cause or impact, repairing the Vision Pro is proving to be an expensive undertaking. If the user has purchased Apple Care, which costs an additional $500 for the Vision Pro, there is a $299 deductible for any glass repairs. Without Apple Care, the repair cost skyrockets to $799. One user shared his experience of visiting the Apple Store, where he was informed that he would have to pay the deductible to get the crack repaired. As of now, the extent of this issue is still uncertain, as reports have predominantly been confined to Reddit.
