Video shows Ukrainian drone obliterating Russia’s $3 million Solntspek flamethrower system in Kherson Oblast

A flamethrower system belonging to Russia, known as TOS-1A Solntsepek (Scorching sunlight), was successfully destroyed on the occupied left bank of Kherson Oblast, according to Ukrainian President’s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak. Yermak shared a video on Telegram showing several drone-dropped shells hitting the $3 million worth equipment. This comes as Ukrainian forces have been making significant advances on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast since mid-October.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a U.S.-based think tank, has been reporting on the successes of the Ukrainian forces in this region. They reported a breakthrough across the Dnipro River into the occupied part of the region near the village of Oleshky, which seemed to have a greater impact than previous similar raids by Ukrainian forces. Analysts also noted Ukrainian advances to the village of Krynky and speculated about the expansion of their foothold and the cutting off of a vital road.

Confirming these reports, President’s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak stated that Ukrainian forces have gained a foothold on the left bank. According to unnamed Western officials cited by The Guardian, three brigades have been successfully deployed to the left bank, and the broader southern counteroffensive has reached its peak. The Marina Corps announced that Ukrainian soldiers have secured positions on several footholds on the occupied left bank and have destroyed over 1,000 occupiers and dozens of pieces of equipment.

However, Ukrainian intelligence believes that the Russians are attempting to regroup in response to these advances. The situation remains dynamic, with Ukrainian forces making progress and Russian forces adapting their strategies. This development marks a significant achievement for Ukraine in their ongoing conflict with Russia.
