Vienna Capitals’ Proud Series is Coming to an End

It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the unfortunate reality: a 3-0 defeat at Ljubljana has sealed the fate of the long-standing play-off series. After 19 seasons, the run of the Vienna Capitals has come to a halt.

This loss has left the Vienna team with no further opportunity to advance in the pre-playoffs. Despite the Capitals dictating the proceedings for majority of the two goalless periods, Ziga Pance managed to score a fortunate goal for the home team during a power play in the 53rd minute. In an attempt to turn the tide, Capitals’ goalkeeper Stefan Stéen was replaced with an additional attacker. However, Jaka Sodja seized the opportunity to score into the empty goal in the 54th minute. Nik Simsic cemented the home team’s victory by scoring another goal into the empty goal in the 60th minute.
