The police in New York City are continuing their efforts to locate the man responsible for a brutal double murder that was captured on surveillance video. The footage, which shows the terrifying incident and the events leading up to it, is now circulating on social media.
The incident occurred in a Brooklyn apartment building on 1418 Brooklyn Avenue. The video begins with a man identified as Jason Pass, 47, dressed in navy blue, climbing the stairs to confront his neighbor, Marie Delille, reportedly due to loud noise. Delille’s husband and two children are also present in the hallway during the confrontation.
Bladimy Mathurin, also 47, rushes out of the apartment holding a pair of scissors, pointing them at Pass. Despite Mathurin’s wife’s attempt to pull him back, he continues the confrontation. It is at this point that the situation takes a horrifying turn.
Pass retrieves a gun from his waistband and aims it at Mathurin. Mathurin starts to retreat towards his apartment, but Pass shoots him before his wife and daughter manage to seek shelter inside. Mathurin’s stepson, 27-year-old Chinwai Mode, tries to escape towards the stairs, but Pass shoots him multiple times, killing him. Pass then returns to Mathurin, who is still alive and attempting to flee, and shoots him at close range once more.
The video shows Pass calmly surveying the scene before walking towards the elevator. The police discovered nine shell casings and several bullet fragments in the hallway, as well as multiple gunshot wounds on Mathurin and Mode. Delille informed the authorities that both Mathurin and Pass had been engaged in a long-standing dispute over noise.
According to reports, Pass had previously made six noise complaint calls to 311, as he lived below Mathurin. The ongoing dispute escalated on the day of the incident when Pass began banging on his ceiling and Mathurin retaliated by banging on his floor. Pass then rushed upstairs, allegedly kicked the door, and the murders occurred.
Delille and her 10-year-old daughter witnessed the shootings. Mathurin worked two jobs as a school bus driver and an Uber driver to support his family.
The police have not provided any updates regarding the search for Pass, who remains at large. It is worth noting that Pass has a previous arrest record for robbery in 1992.
The apartment complex in East Flatbush, where the murders took place, is notable for being the childhood homes of Hollywood stars Barbra Streisand and Michael K. Williams.
