YouTube Embraces Diversity: Monetization for Breastfeeding and Twerking Videos Now Available!

YouTube has made changes to its policies regarding monetization of breastfeeding videos and non-sexually graphic dancing. The platform now allows breastfeeding videos that show the mother’s areola and videos demonstrating how to use a breast pump with visible nipples to earn money. However, these videos must include contextual reference to breastfeeding and feature a child in the scene to be eligible for ad revenue. Previously, videos with exposed nipples were not able to earn money on YouTube.

According to a spokesperson from YouTube, the decision to update the policy was made after receiving feedback on the helpfulness of breastfeeding videos for parents. The platform recognized the importance of supporting individuals navigating this particular stage of parenthood.

In addition to the changes in breastfeeding video monetization, YouTube has also revised its guidelines on “non-sexually graphic dancing.” Creators can now earn money for videos featuring dance moves like twerking and grinding, as long as the focus is not deliberately on extreme minimal clothing or explicit body parts like breasts, buttocks, and genitalia. Videos that mimic sexual acts, such as grabbing a partner’s genitalia while dancing, are also not eligible for monetization. However, videos that include fleeting minimal clothing, fleeting caresses of sexual body parts, or simulate sexual acts in a professional setting, such as a dance studio, can still earn money.

TechCrunch reports that YouTube is currently reviewing existing content to determine its eligibility for monetization based on the new guidelines. If creators have adhered to the platform’s advertiser-friendly content guidelines, their ads will be activated.

These policy changes demonstrate YouTube’s efforts to strike a balance between allowing diverse content and ensuring it remains suitable for advertisers. By updating its guidelines, the platform aims to support creators while maintaining a safe and advertiser-friendly environment.
