Zelensky Discloses First Time Loss of 31 Thousand Ukrainian Soldiers

For the first time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has disclosed the number of casualties sustained by the Ukrainian army in their ongoing conflict with Russia. The figures he presented are staggering, revealing that 31 thousand Ukrainian soldiers have lost their lives in their efforts to combat the aggression.

Interestingly, Zelensky did not provide specific numbers in relation to those who have been wounded or have gone missing during this war.

This disclosure is the first of its kind, marking the first time that an official death toll of the Ukrainian army has been released to the public. The last time a similar announcement was made was at the end of 2022. On that occasion, Mikhail Podoliak, an assistant to the president, reported that between 10 and 13 thousand soldiers had lost their lives in combat.

During a press conference that took place on February 25, Zelensky also made some revelations about the Russian side of the conflict. He claimed that the number of Russian casualties stands at 180 thousand, with a further half a million injured. However, it’s worth noting that Russia does not publicly disclose any information relating to their war losses.

Previously, in November, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had made an estimation concerning Russia’s losses. According to his assessment, the figures were even higher, with the total loss estimated to be around 300,000.
