Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath Challenges Indians’ Decision to Relocate to the US

Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath has raised questions about why young Indians are still moving to the United States despite India’s booming economy. In a tweet, Kamath highlighted the “dichotomy” of wealthy Americans wanting to invest in India while young Indians choose to pursue opportunities in the US.

Kamath’s tweet was accompanied by a graph from ‘The Open Doors 2023’ report, which revealed that India is the leading source of international graduate students in the US. The number of Indians pursuing postgraduate studies in the US has increased by 63 percent to 1.65 lakh, surpassing China for the first time in 15 years.

Responding to Kamath’s tweet, some argued that Americans invest in India for monetary rewards, while Indian students seek lifestyle rewards by moving to the US. Others defended the desire for a better life, stating that the US still offers opportunities for individuals to succeed.

However, some cautioned against the high living costs and potential loneliness that may come with living abroad. They also mentioned that many Indians eventually crave Indian cuisine and the social life they left behind.

It is worth noting that India has the largest diaspora population in the world, with 18 million Indians living outside their homeland as of 2020, according to a United Nations report.
