11 Rescued as Gas Cylinder Explosion Causes Collapse of 5 Houses in Mumbai

Eleven individuals were successfully rescued after five houses in Mumbai’s Chembur collapsed due to a gas cylinder explosion on Wednesday, according to fire officials. The forceful blast caused the buildings, which were located in a narrow lane, to crumble, trapping numerous residents beneath the debris.

The incident took place at around 8 am in the Old Barrack area near the Golf Club. The destruction is evident in images from the scene, showing collapsed staircases and hanging balconies.

Upon arrival, the fire department immediately initiated a rescue operation. So far, 11 people have been safely evacuated, with four of them receiving treatment at the hospital. Dr. Kedar from Shatabdi Hospital identified the injured as 50-year-old Vikas Ambhore, 27-year-old Ashok Ambhore, Dr. Kedar himself, 47-year-old Savita Ambhore, and 29-year-old Rohit Ambhore.

The site is currently occupied by fire brigades, police personnel, and ambulance services, all actively engaged in the ongoing rescue operation.

This incident comes just two weeks after another gas cylinder explosion in Mumbai’s Bandra area, which resulted in injuries to eight individuals. Some of the victims sustained severe burns, affecting 35 to 40 percent of their bodies. An official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) stated, “We believe that the fire was caused by an LPG cylinder explosion.”
