Royal Enfield Launches All-New Himalayan, Starting at Rs 2.69 Lakh
Royal Enfield has announced the Indian pricing for its latest adventure motorcycle, the “all-new Himalayan,” at the Motoverse flagship event in Goa. The base variant, named “Base,” is priced at Rs 2.69 lakh and is available in the color Kaza Brown. The mid variant, called “Pass,” is priced at Rs 2.74 lakh and comes in Slate Himalayan Salt and Slate Himalayan Blue. The top variant, named “Peak,” is priced at Rs 2.79 lakh for Kamet White and Rs 2.84 lakh for Hanle Black.
All three variants have the same specifications and features, with the only difference being the color options. The all-new Himalayan, also known as the Himalayan 450, is the successor to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 that was launched in 2016. The new model is a ground-up redesign and introduces several firsts for the manufacturer.
The heart of the motorcycle is the Sherpa 450 engine, a new single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 452 cubic centimeters. It is liquid-cooled, features Dual Overhead Cams (DOHC), an aluminum bore, and a slightly short-stroke design. The engine is 10 kilograms lighter than its predecessor and produces 40 PS of power and 40 Nm of torque. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch.
The new Himalayan has a top speed of approximately 150 kmph and is expected to offer a fuel economy of around 28 kmpl. It comes with a 17-liter fuel tank, providing a travel range of about 450 kilometers. The wheel sizes remain the same as the previous model, with a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. However, the wheels are now made of aluminum, and the rear tire has been widened to 140 mm.
The suspension has also been upgraded, with Showa upside-down front forks and increased travel at the rear. The ground clearance has been slightly increased to 230 mm. The new Himalayan weighs 196 kg, which is 3 kg lighter than its predecessor.
With these significant improvements, Royal Enfield aims to position the all-new Himalayan as a top contender in the adventure motorcycle segment. The market’s response to the pricing strategy will determine its success against competitors in the same price range.
