Vox in Congress Pushes for Restoration of Vandalized Statues of Key Hispanic Figures

The political party Vox has recently submitted a proposal following an urgent interrogation of the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun. The motion put forth by Vox calls for the initiation of requisite diplomatic measures for the restoration of monuments and statues of significant personalities from Hispanic history that have been subjected to attacks.

According to the details of the proposal accessed by Europa Press, Vox is also insisting that the Government implements any necessary measures to effect cultural policies that “commemorate, disseminate, and acknowledge” Spain’s contributions to Western civilization.

Furthermore, the political group led by Santiago Abascal advocates for the creation of a new educational syllabus that emphasizes the importance of History. The objective behind this is to introduce an academic approach that is “genuinely scientific, consistent with factual historical events, and devoid of myths and fallacies“.

The party also finds it crucial to undertake resolute diplomatic efforts in safeguarding the Spanish heritage “wherever Spanish history is under assault”. This is to be done in association with the Royal Academies and all existing research institutions in Spain.

In its proposal, Vox expresses its disappointment that the current Spanish Government, contrary to the “harmony and prosperity” cultivated by Spain’s presence in America, has adopted an “anti-Spanish attitude”. This viewpoint endorses the opposition to Spain based on identity and perceives it as a “tool for endorsing progressive propaganda”.

Vox alleges that “there have been numerous instances where Spanish culture and history have been directly targeted since Urtasun assumed the role of Minister“.

Notably, during the debate on this urgent question last Wednesday in Congress, Urtasun and the Vox deputy Joaquin Robles engaged in a discussion over what constitutes Spanish culture. They brought up several prominent figures from contemporary Spanish cinema and music, which the Minister considers a source of “pride”.

“Do you not regard Bayona, Almodóvar, Elena Martín, or Isabel Coixet as part of Spanish culture? We take pride in the film industry workers of this country whom you attack. Are you so far removed from this country’s common sense to genuinely believe that Pablo Berger, Javier Bardem, or Malena Alterio do not bring pride to Spain and this country?” Urtasun retorted, following Vox’s question about his Ministry’s policies to “defend the cultural and civilizational legacy”.
