A woman officer working with the Karnataka government was tragically killed at her home in Bengaluru on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Pratima, held the position of Deputy Director in the Mines and Geology Department of Karnataka. Her lifeless body was discovered with stab wounds at her residence in Subramanyapora.
Pratima, 45 years old, had been dropped off at her home by her driver after finishing work. She had been living in the same house for over eight years. The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm, while her husband and son were away in Thirthahalli, located in the Shivamogga district.
The following morning, Pratima’s brother arrived at her home and made the grim discovery of her murder. He had attempted to contact her the previous night but received no response. Concerned, he immediately notified the police.
Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South Division in Bengaluru City, stated, “As usual, at around 8 pm on Saturday, Pratima returned home. Since she did not answer phone calls the previous night and this morning, her elder brother went to her house to check on her and discovered her murder. He promptly informed the police.” Forensic and technical teams have been dispatched to the crime scene, with three separate investigation teams established. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his shock over the incident and assured a thorough investigation. He pledged that those responsible for Pratima’s murder would be held accountable. Siddaramaiah stated, “I just learned about this. We will conduct an inquiry. It appears that she was living alone in Bengaluru while her husband resided in their native village. The motive behind the crime is still unknown, and we will investigate it.”
