Secret Service Agents Fire Shots at Attempted Break-In of Unmarked Vehicle in Washington, DC
According to a law enforcement official, Secret Service agents guarding President Joe Biden’s granddaughter, Naomi Biden, opened fire on three individuals who were attempting to break into an unmarked Secret Service vehicle in Washington, DC. The incident took place in the Georgetown neighborhood late on Sunday night.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and could not disclose further details of the ongoing investigation, stated that the agents noticed the three suspects breaking a window of the parked and unoccupied SUV while they were accompanying Naomi Biden. In response, one of the agents discharged their firearm, but no one was injured by the gunfire.
The Secret Service released a statement confirming the incident, explaining that the three individuals fled the scene in a red car. In response, the Secret Service issued a regional bulletin to the Metropolitan Police, alerting them to be on the lookout for the suspects’ vehicle.
Washington, DC has experienced a significant surge in carjackings and car thefts this year. The local police have reported over 750 carjackings and more than 6,000 stolen vehicle reports in the district. Last month, U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas was also a victim of carjacking near the Capitol, where three armed assailants stole his car without causing him any physical harm.
Moreover, violent crime in the city has risen by over 40% compared to the previous year. In February, U.S. Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota was assaulted in her apartment building, suffering bruises but managing to escape serious injury.
As investigations into the attempted break-in of the Secret Service vehicle continue, law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in addressing the rising crime rates in the nation’s capital.
