An 11-year-old boy from China has gained attention on social media for his essay expressing his desire to buy a luxury car. According to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the primary school student wrote about his wish to purchase a Bentley by the time he turns 18. The essay went viral online after a teacher, surnamed Wang, shared it on social media.
In the essay, the boy reflects on the importance of money in our lives and dreams of owning a Bentley, which costs 3 million Chinese yuan (approximately Rs 3.45 crore). However, he also wonders how he can make his dream come true. “I have seven years before I turn 18. What can I do in that time to make the money?” he asked.
The boy, who is from Zhejiang province in eastern China, wrote the essay as part of a weekly assignment about his thoughts and activities. He outlined various strategies, including saving money, but realized that they fell short of the goal. Even if he saved 100 yuan (US$14) every day, he would only accumulate tens of thousands of yuan in seven years, which is far from the cost of a Bentley.
The boy mentioned that he would also receive “lai see” (lucky money) from his parents and grandparents in the coming years, but even that would only amount to around 300,000 yuan (US$41,000). In the end, he settled for a Porsche worth 1 million yuan.
The essay gained widespread attention and went viral after being shared by his teacher. It highlights the dreams and aspirations of young children and the importance they place on money.
