She explained, “We checked the receipt and the intended destination, and we knew we had to return it. I played out different scenarios in my mind, considering the consequences of keeping the tickets. Ultimately, I decided that returning them was the right thing to do.”
Interestingly, the scratch tickets held no value until they were validated by an authorized lottery retailer. Christian Teja from the Massachusetts Lottery clarified, “Until these tickets are activated by a retail agent, they have no value. If someone were to try and cash a winning ticket without proper validation, it would be flagged, and they would be unable to collect the prize.”
