Microsoft’s Copilot AI arrives on Windows 10: Get ready for the future of assistance

Microsoft is expanding its AI capabilities by bringing Copilot AI to Windows 10. The company has confirmed that the AI tool will be available to Windows Insider users in an upcoming Release Preview update. Copilot will appear on the right side of the Task Bar and can be used to ask AI questions, manage Windows features, and interact with documents. Microsoft assures users that the Copilot window will not overlap with desktop content or block open windows.

This announcement comes as no surprise, as earlier this month, Windows Central reported that Windows 10 would be receiving Copilot. While Windows 11 is Microsoft’s latest operating system, it only accounts for 26 percent of Windows installations, according to GlobalStats. In contrast, Windows 10 still holds the majority with 69 percent of the Windows market.

In 2020, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 had reached 1 billion devices, and it appears that the number has only grown since then. Windows Central’s report suggests that Windows 11 is currently on 400 million devices. Given these numbers, it makes sense for Microsoft to bring its latest AI technology to an aging OS. Windows 10’s “end of service” date is set for October 14, 2025. If Microsoft can successfully bring Copilot’s AI to 1.4 billion devices by 2023, this year of AI hype will have been well worth it.

The preview of Windows 10’s Copilot will initially be available in North America, as well as parts of Asia and South America, over the next few months. Windows Insiders who wish to try out the update are advised to install today’s November preview update and enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” feature in Windows Update.
