PM Modi: Deepfake Poses a Major Concern, Urges ChatGPT to Issue Warnings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create deepfake videos and has called it a “big concern.” In order to tackle this issue, PM Modi has instructed the ChatGpt team to identify and flag deepfake videos, as well as provide warnings when such videos are circulated on the internet.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of media in educating the public about this problem. He has advised victims to file police complaints and utilize the remedies provided under the Information Technology rules.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar also highlighted the responsibility of online platforms to prevent the dissemination of misinformation. He stated that the government takes the safety and trust of citizens very seriously, particularly when it comes to protecting children and women who are often targeted by such content.

The Centre has emphasized that the creation and distribution of deepfakes carry severe penalties, including a fine of Rs 1 lakh and imprisonment for up to three years.

It is evident that the Indian government is taking proactive measures to address the growing concern of deepfake videos and their potential impact on society. By involving technology teams and encouraging media awareness, they aim to protect citizens from the harmful consequences of misinformation.
