Navya Naveli Nanda, the granddaughter of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, recently expressed her annoyance at people’s surprise when they discover that she can speak fluent Hindi. During an interview with Mashable India, Navya, who is the daughter of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda, stated that knowing your mother tongue should be considered the minimum requirement. She finds it puzzling that people are shocked by her ability to speak Hindi fluently.
When asked if she inherited her language skills from her author mother, Shweta, Navya responded by saying, “I don’t know. I think it’s in our blood. Writing skills have always been a part of us. Even speaking and pronouncing words correctly in both English and Hindi. It’s a little annoying because people are shocked when I speak in Hindi. They ask me, ‘Oh, you know Hindi?’ Knowing your language is a very basic thing, so I don’t understand why people get shocked.”
It is worth noting that Navya Naveli Nanda’s paternal great-grandfather is the renowned Hindi poet and writer Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
During the conversation, Navya also explained why she chose not to pursue a career in acting, unlike her brother Agastya Nanda. Agastya will soon make his Bollywood debut in Zoya Akhtar’s film “The Archies.” Navya stated, “I never had an interest in acting. As I mentioned earlier, I am a very shy person. I feel quite awkward. So, I was never interested in the creative field, particularly acting.”
Navya Naveli Nanda also disclosed that she is preparing for the second season of her popular podcast, “What The Hell Navya.” The podcast features her mother, Shweta Bachchan, and her grandmother, veteran actress Jaya Bachchan. Additionally, Navya is the founder of Project Naveli and the co-founder of the Nimaya Foundation.
